(1 Mar 2020) Small groups of migrants on Sunday were seen crossing the Evros River between Turkey and Greece on a small boat.
The migrants made the crossing near the village of Doyran, about 30 kilometres South of the Pazarkule border crossing along the river that divides the two countries.
The images came after clashes took place on the border on Saturday.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Saturday said his country's borders with Europe were open, making good on a threat to let refugees into the continent as thousands of migrants gathered at the frontier with Greece.
The vast majority of migrants were from Afghanistan and most were men, although there were also some families with young children.
Greece announced it was sending police and army reinforcements to its land border and reinforcing controls along the sea border, where 52 coast guard and navy vessels were patrolling.
The United Nations migration organization said Sunday that at least 13,000 people were massed on Turkey’s land border with Greece.
