Bridgerton, both the book series by Julia Quinn and the Shondaland TV series, is no exception. Season 1 found Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Regé-Jean Page) enacting the irresistible dance of a fake courtship, which ultimately led to a very real marriage and love affair. Season 2 brings one of the most beloved of all tropes to the screen, enemies to lovers, in its tale of Kate (Simone Ashley) and Anthony (Jonathan Bailey).

Bridgerton follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market. Hoping to follow in her parent’s footsteps and find a match sparked by true love, Daphne’s prospects initially seem to be unrivaled. But as her older brother begins to rule out her potential suitors, the high society scandal sheet written by the mysterious Lady Whistledown casts aspersions on Daphne.
