We said Infiniti should make more cars like the 2020 QX50, so they took our advice... literally. Introducing the less functional 2022 Infiniti QX55 Sensory AWD.

This week we're driving the latest compact luxury crossover from the Japanese premium brand, the 2022 Infiniti QX55 Sensory AWD. Back in 2020 we drove the QX50, a then-new version of Infiniti's compact crossover sharing the same MFA2 platform as some popular Mercedes-Benz vehicles like the GLA-Class, GLB-Class, GLC-Class, A-Class and CLA-Class. At the time we liked the QX50 Sensory AWD and told Infiniti if they wanted to be successful, they should make more vehicles like that. So they did.

The 2022 Infiniti QX55 Sensory AWD is essentially the same vehicle we drove two years ago with less trunk space, a coupé-style rear end, and Infiniti says it's the spiritual successor the FX. This vehicle is missing a couple features over it's slightly larger brother including side window sunshades and a panoramic sunroof, but everything else we saw on the QX50 is here. Infiniti's ProPILOT assist, full LED lighting, remote starter, and Infiniti's 2.0L Variable-Compression 4 cylinder turbo engine. Like the QX50, this QX55 is missing a few features like Qi wireless phone charging and power folding mirrors, but for the most part it comes well equipped.

We go over the other changes of this vehicle along with how the fuel economy differs on this. We then take the 2022 Infiniti QX55 Sensory AWD on a real-world road test to talk about how it performs, drives, handles, and rides during typical daily use. We discuss our thoughts on the VC-Turbo engine now that we've driven it again and driven it for more time than we did before. We also discuss some of the reasons why you may want to consider this vehicle and some of the areas that need to be improved.
