Mike Basman sadly left this mortal coil in October 2022. There has never been and never will be another chess player like Mike.
Mike was a true Maverick of the game, often playing and championing unorthodox openings such as The Grob (1 g4), Creepy Crawly (...a6 an ...h6) and the aptly named St George Defence (...a6 with ...b5).

This video was recorded about a year before Mike's death and shows his great sense of humor, wit, and unique outlook on life. RIP Mike.
