If you think about petrol-electric mid-size SUVs, chances are the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid immediately comes to mind, such is the extent to which it has dominated the segment since its arrival in 2019. But the 2024 GWM Haval H6 Hybrid is looking to change the conversation with its intense focus on value for money.

In fact, the H6 Hybrid looks very convincing on paper, with it motivated by a 'self-charging' hybrid powertrain, which combines a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine with an electric motor for combined outputs of 179kW of power and 530Nm of torque, or considerably more than the RAV4 Hybrid can muster.

But how does the H6 Hybrid measure up in reality? In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Emily Agar and her family of three live with its aptly named Ultra flagship for a week to find out, putting to test its performance and practicality.
