The Jeep Wrangler 4xe is a new and somewhat unexpected offering from Jeep. The 4xe (pronounced "4 by E") is a Wrangler plug-in hybrid — the first of its kind in Jeep's lineup. In this video, Travis Langness plugs in and goes over everything we found out about this new Jeep hybrid SUV. From performance tests to off-road experiences, Travis discovers if this hybrid Wrangler 4xe is a more efficient Wrangler. This is our review of the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe.
For 2021, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine plus an electric motor and battery that together provide 375 horsepower and 22 miles of all-electric range. Remarkably, this Wrangler 4xe is the second most powerful Wrangler in the lineup, and it mirrors the V8-powered Wrangler 392 when it comes to torque. While the 4xe doesn't feel superfast, it offers plenty of giddyup for a hybrid engine.
Off-road is where the heart lies for most Wrangler owners, and this hybrid Wrangler follows in tradition. Fortunately, the 4xe is just as capable off-roading as a non-hybrid Wrangler. The 4xe's power and torque are enough that it can feel like a standard Wrangler. Keeping true to expectations, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe is still one of the most off-road-ready SUVs you can buy.
From the off-road goodies to the powerful engine, the Wrangler 4xe hybrid SUV is a fun car to drive. It can do the work commute on weekdays, and head out to the trails and get a little dirty on the weekends. If that sounds like your kind of week, then the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe might be the right choice for you. Just don't forget to plug it in.
