While this video is definitely late, it doesn't mean it's not important to discuss! Haute Couture reviews have taken me a while to write, but they are so incredibly important, specifically Balenciaga's Haute Couture debut, as well as Chitose Abe of Sacai's collaborative collection for Jean Paul Gaultier! Demna Gvasalia took on Cristobal Balenciaga's legacy of Haute Couture and helped to bring back the brand's initial clothing service to customers after decades without it. For a designer like Demna to bring back Haute Couture at Balenciaga is a big deal, not only is Balenciaga a sacred name in dressmaking, but the brand has been ready to wear based since Balenciaga closed the house himself in 1968. But Demna did his best, and well I can't knock the first attempt. As for Jean Paul Gaultier, which also stated it was no longer going to have JPG himself design Couture, Chitose Abe of the cult reconstructionist label Sacai stepped in to design the collection for a season. Collab collections are now common in fashion, from Louis Vuitton & Supreme to Shayne Oliver & Helmut Lang, it's not weird to see two big fashion names as a short-lived duo. But Chitose Abe made her mark on JPG in my opinion, and I will be manifesting more in the future!
