Are Mosquito Bits safe for organic vegetable gardening? Is this registered pesticide harmful if ingested?

The active ingredient in Mosquito Bits is Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, also known as BTI or BT. Many organic gardeners use this to eradicate fungus gnats or mosquito larvae in their gardens and/or ponds. When I saw all of the scary warning labels on the package, I was concerned.
