How to weld open root in the flat position
We are back to basics, ok advanced basics, in this episode. We are talking about open root stic k welding. In this video I am using a 6011 rod since my AHP Alplhatig 200x won't handle a 6010 rod. That is a common problem with a lot of the inverter welders. The 6011 is a good alternative.
Anyway, after beveling and puting a "fat nickle" land on the two test pieces I tack them up with a 3/32 gap. The root is laid in with the "whip and pause" method. If you are unfamilair with that technique check out my previous video on the subject.

After the root, it's just a simple drag with a 7018 low-hy. You fill up the bevel and then lay down your cover passes.
