In the early years of the Industrial Age, industrialists had to figure out a way to create a fast and efficient, yet safe, relationship between man and machine. Frederick Winslow Taylor is responsible for one approach known as Taylorism, which proposed that by simplifying jobs, productivity would increase. Fordism, which came later, proposed the mass-production of goods using assembly line techniques.
