Would you take a punt on a new Genesis? Hyundai’s luxury brand has been around for almost a decade, but they’ve recently come out swinging with new product that is designed to seriously put them on the map, and the GV80 is the ultimate statement of that. A large SUV designed to compete with the BMW X5 and Mercedes GLE, the GV80 can be had with a range of brand new engines – including the diesel straight six on test.

But perhaps the GV80’s more natural rival, for now, is the Volkswagen Touareg. Sharing underpinnings with the Audi Q7, the Touareg gets very luxurious indeed in its highest specifications, and its diesel V6 is a close match for the GV80’s inline-six unit.

But which is best? Touareg or GV80? Genesis or Volkswagen? Or should you skip them both?
