In southern China a stunning landmark rises above the clouds, a steel and concrete giant with waist of a supermodel. Rising 610 metres tall, the Canton Tower is the 2nd tallest tower on Earth. It’s a true symbol of China’s industrial power, a marvel of engineering that required great leaps in technology to be built. This Wonder of the East wouldn’t be possible without key inventions found in a series of landmark towers. In this 2011 film we explore the four historic towers that made these engineering breakthroughs – The Washington Monument, the Eiffel Tower, Canada’s CN Tower and the record-breaking Canton Tower. Travelling up the scale we’ll reveal the incredible stories behind these structures, and the innovations that allowed them to soar higher into the sky.

Episode from the “Big Bigger Biggest” documentary series exploring the engineering breakthroughs that have enabled us to develop some of the largest structures in existence.
