Some friends got a new 2021 Electric Jeep Rubicon 4xe ( four-by-ee) and we took it on some off-road trails to figure out what it can do.

This thing is weird. It has a few different modes and all sorts of different settings.
It can run on gas only, with the 2.0L turbo engine, a hybrid mode and an all electric mode. Then it has a max regen mode that feels like a diesel exhaust brake.
It took us a while to figure out that you can't run it in electric mode with the transmission in manual. The transmission has to be auto ( at least in 4low ) for all electric mode to work.

This is a plug in electric Jeep, but the electric range is not great. Only a about 20+ miles and the hybrid mode will only last for about 50 miles, but then it goes to all gas mode ( e save Jeep calls it) and you can charge back up a little.

Rock crawling with this thing will take some getting used to. In electric mode it has a shit load of torque, but won’t move until you press the throttle which is super sensitive.

For easy off-road trails, I really liked the feel of the 4xe in 4 high with max regen on. You get the control and feel of 4low when you let off the throttle and the Jeep slows it self down.
