Thailand is famous for having the largest number of transgender people - persons who have changed their gender. They are also called ladyboys or Kathoey. And it's easy to get confused here, because Kathoey is the Thai word for anyone who doesn't fit into the usual "male-female" classification, i.e. the third gender. And a ladyboy is, rather, a person who was born a man, but is transitioning to a woman: he has not yet completely changed gender, he still has male genitalia, but he, more often than not, takes hormones, has had a breast augmentation and dresses like a woman. And it's more appropriate to call him a "she."
