Gelcoat blisters below the waterline!! What's going on??

To be honest I think that these ongoing issues are the result of a manufacturing OOPSIES and the long term fix is going to be having the gelcoat peeled from the waterline down, or dealing with the Spring launch routine of chasing down the new gremlins as Tim's been doing each year :-/

How does something like that happen? Well, if I had to speculate I'd say that when the hull was being laid up the gelcoat was sprayed into the mold and there was a few days between that and when the glass was then applied providing a window for contaminants in the air to settle onto the open gelcoat surface. This could be oil particulates from nearby machinery / tools, dust or a handful of other things

This isn't necessarily an uncommon practice in manufacturing but the result is that when the glass is then applied, that initial surface of contact is now compromised resulting in less than ideal bonding between two different materials which is why the gel chips off as easily as it does :-/

Eventually this will all be taken care of :-)!! Just a matter of sooner or later...
