Learn From Our Mistake RV Gel Finish

We, the Two Tired Teachers, thought we were doing everything right to preserve the color of our blue Micro Minnie travel trailer. Twice a year we washed it and hand waxed it.

It's a 2018 Winnebago Micro Minnie that we bought in 2019. We hand washed and polished it. For the first 4 times we washed and polished it, it was doing a good job. On the fifth time, we lost a lot of color.

We do not fault the product we were using. We simply didn't understand enough about gel coat finishes and how to treat them properly.

We consider having the travel trailer painted. While we never went and got an estimate, the ballpark figures on that were between $5,000 and $8,000. That is more than we could afford.

Sharon watched videos on how to restore the color, and what she learned was that we could make things so much worse. The videos did show that the color was probably still there, but getting it back would be a challenge.

What probably happened with the color is every time we polished the RV, we were scuffing it just a tad. We finally had scuffed much of the color.

It was time to call the professionals. Adam at XL Custom Detail and Polish in Brownwood, TX did a three stage compound. From the videos Sharon watched, she's guessing Adam went over the travel trailer around 10 times or more.

To complete the job on our Micro Minnie that is 21' 11" was $1,150. We are NOT quoting prices for XL Custom Detail and Polish. We are simply letting you know what it cost us. We could not be happier with the results.

The way that we will keep the RV looking gorgeous is to take it back to Adam once or twice a year. He will put a refresher on the UV protectant.

We made this video because if we did more harm than good, there is a chance that you are doing more harm than good. We want you to be aware of that before the finish becomes as dull as ours was.
