On Dec 9th, 2019 a Chilean C130 carrying 38 passengers went missing in the Drake Passage. The plane had lost radio contact at 613pm, just onver an hour after initial takeoff from Punta Arenas.

This is a huge tradgey for the whole Antarctic community. Most personnel that go to Antarctica take a plane, whether it be a C130/C17/Airbus/other. This affects the Chilean community extremely as they have lost 35 members of their Air Force and 3 civilians.
