-In the 1970s, John Sterling did double-duty calling both New York Nets basketball and New York Islanders hockey on WMCA (in addition to hosting his nightly talk show). Here is one of the few complete radio broadcasts of his Islanders work, from April 7, 1977. It's Game 2 of the initial best of three "Preliminary" round between the Islanders and the Chicago Blackhawks. The Islanders at the time are a team on the rise, but still three years away from their first Stanley Cup, while the Blackhawks are a team largely in decline with aging stars (Stan Mikita, Tony Esposito). Sterling and Bob Lawrence do the game in which the Islanders look to advance to the Quarterfinal round.
