On 25 October 1957, Conservative MP and Parliamentary Secretary Patricia Hornsby-Smith about a new pamphlet published by the UK government on the dangers of the hydrogen bomb, or H-bomb. Hornsby-Smith discussed the effects that a single H-bomb would have on a city like London, as well as the devastating effects that multiple H-bombs would have on the UK. Rather than terrifying the population, the pamphlet was intended to inform members of the public on what to do if they found themselves among the survivors of a thermonuclear strike. A random member of the public, Mr Peter Griffiths, gave his thoughts on the document after reading it on his lunch break.
