CPI Inflation shows that rents went up over 6% over the last 12 months and why that could even get worse over the next few years. Higher rents are being driven by a shortage of homes available for sale and a limited supply of housing in general. Housing shortages will get worse as the housing crisis is being affected by a lack of new home construction.

The lack of homes available for sale is keeping housing from crashing since home prices can't "crash" during a shortage, despite high interest rates.
