This video is a seven step process to installing pavers with visual support to help you or your new hires to learn the entire process of installing a paver patio, walkway, or driveway from start to finish. We also span three different base preparation methods including a traditional method, open graded base, and synthetic base installations and when each of these methods are most applicable.

Preparation:
We start with surveying a property and deciding whether or not we can lay pavers on the existing grade or if we need to build a retaining wall or raised patio in order to create a usable space. The next step is staking out an area with string line and seeing where your patio or walkway is going to land in terms of elevation compared to your existing grade.

Excavation:
Our depth of excavation is based on our string lines that we discovered during our preparation. The excavation depth is calculated at this point in the video and we discuss how the excavation should be uniform to the slope that the top of the patio will have so the water sheets away from the foundation of the house.

Base Prep:
Base preparation starts with compacting the subsoil, installing geotextile, and building up with the proper aggregate based on the method you have chosen to install. The option of installing geogrid is also included at this step. Finally, the one inch screed layer is completed at this stage to create a level surface for the pavers to be installed.

Laying Pavers:
Pavers can now be installed based on the design. String lines can be used to ensure that lines are straight throughout the laying process.

Edge Restraint:
The proper edge restraint is installed based on the installation method to ensure that the pavers do not migrate laterally.

Jointing Compound:
The installation of various jointing compounds into the joints of the pavers is covered in great detail in this section to ensure a proper final installation of your paver project.

Finalize:
The final step is ensuring that the edges of the project are topped up with soil and seed as necessary
