According to the United Nations, 811 million people go to bed hungry every night, and 44 million are on the brink of famine. To confront this crisis, HKS alum Jean-Martin Bauer MPP 2001 and the U.N. World Food Programme are leveraging advancements in satellite imagery, data collection and artificial intelligence to identify areas of the world in need assistance. Using survey data collected through mobile phones, Bauer and WFP have been able to forecast food security conditions in areas that had previously been unreachable. In this documentary, Bauer discusses how he has helped revolutionize humanitarian work by helping the WFP embrace new technology and techniques.
