What is Citizenship? In simple words, Citizenship refers to a person's legal status as a legal member of a sovereign state or as a member of a nation. Citizenship is a very important principle in a democracy, Citizenship refers to a person's full membership in any state in which he or she possesses civil and political rights.

Democracy depends on Citizenship, because Citizenship is the foundation of Democracy.

Articles 5 to 11 of Part-II of the Constitution of India, deal with “Citizenship”. Also, the Citizenship Act, 1955 passed by the Parliament of India as per Article 11 of the Constitution is an important law regarding Citizenship, in which amendments have been made from time to time. The Indian Constitution provides for a single citizenship for the whole of India. Therefore, Citizenship is a very important subject and it is important to know Citizenship.
