Copart Toyota Tacoma Rebuild Part 1! The very first thing I noticed about this truck upon picking it up from the salvage yard was the unsettlingly loud clicking/popping sound under acceleration. Just as I feared, the sound was coming from an exhaust manifold that had warped over the years.

On a well maintained truck without rust, replacing the manifold should only take an hour or so… but this truck spent much of its life up north on the salty roads of Maine. No bueno. All six of the studs snapped off INSIDE the cylinder head. This was my biggest fear when taking on the manifold replacement myself. After some research, I found that because the Tacoma has an aluminum head and the studs are steel, we can just mig weld right to the studs with no worry of accidentally welding to the head.

This method did require several attempts on many of the studs but we were able to successfully extract all six of them in the end! Definitely a helpful trick if you ever encounter sheared studs.

We welcome any questions or suggestions down below. Thanks for watching! 🤟Stay tuned and stay motivated!
