Volvo’s Swedish krona is going all into the EV game.

This is the C40 Recharge. It’s exclusively all-electric, unlike the XC40 which also comes in a gas-powered version. We know a little bit about it at this point, so I’m going to share.

The C40 Recharge shares a lot of the same characteristics as the XC40 Recharge. That’s the all-electric version of that sub-compact ute. Want to see a full review of that by moi? You can do that?

This C40 Recharge is jumping into the sport SUV pool with an SUV bodied more like a sport coupe complete with a sloping roofline and tiny greenhouse.

It’s sporty and, if I call it cute is that off-putting? I don’t think so. But I’ll call it sexy cute. Because there’s no radiator or grille you get this fun frunk as well. Is that a technical term? Who cares?
I want to put this thing in my pocket.

Tell me what you think in the comments, folks. If you’re buying it, it’s your opinion that counts.

The C40 Recharge shares the XC40 Recharge’s powertrain featuring front and rear motors, making it an AWD proposition and powered by a 789-kWh battery.

Combined horsepower from those motors is a whooping 402 ponies. That’s a lot for such a little guy.

But get this, 487 lb-ft of torque. Those numbers are pretty drool-worthy. I loved how the power of the XC40 feels. That thing rips. So, my expectations for this are high, Volvo!

Volvo claims range will clock in around the 200-mile mark. But the battery can be charged to 80 percent in about 40 minutes with a 220-volt DC fast charger.

Expect this nugget to get a power hatchback, 360-degree camera system, tons of safety features, because, well, Volvo. It’s also got some great Google interface going on with Google Assitant, Maps and Play. Can you say Unlimited Data as well?

We expect that the C40 Recharge will have a starting price of around $55,000. That’s a lot of change for potentially not a lot of range.

The interior is completely leather-free. It gets durable fabric bucket seats, and a rear split-folding bench in the second row, and the carpet? That’s made of 100% recycled plastic.

Competition is only getting stiffer in this segment. Already you’ve got the Nissan Ariya, Tesla Model Y and VW ID.4.

OC: Certainly there’s way more to come on the Volvo C40 Recharge. Subscribe to the KBB YouTube channel and be there when it happens.
