Today I want to show you how to make cafe de olla at home. This is a Mexican coffee recipe that is very easy to make, super delish and actually good for you (sans the sugar 😊). I make it without the piloncillo or brown sugar and absolutely love it.

This coffee is spiced with cinnamon, cloves and star anise. Read below for all the benefits when it is made without the sugar -

How to make cafe de olla at home -

6 cups water
1 - 8 oz. piloncillo or brown sugar to taste
2 cinnamon sticks — preferably Mexican
4 cloves1 star anise
6 tablespoons of ground dark roast coffee (not instant)

Bring the water to a boil.

Add the piloncillo or brown sugar and stir until dissolved. Add the cinnamon, cloves and star anise. Add the coffee and stir well.

Bring to a rolling boil and remove from the heat. Cover and allow the coffee to steep for 5 minutes.

Strain the coffee into cups and enjoy.
