The 2021 508 PSE SW is a serious statement of intent, though it faces stiff competition from the Audi S4, BMW M340i and Mercedes-AMG C 43. But the Peugeot has one thing its rivals don’t have: it’s a PHEV.

That’s right, the 508 PSE can be plugged-in and charged for all-electric driving. You’ll get up to 31 miles on a single charge, or you can use the battery and motor in conjunction with the petrol engine to eke out a bit more fuel. When the electric motor and piston engine are working together, you’ll get 355bhp which is sent to all-four wheels for a 0-62mph time of 5.2 seconds. Sounds impressive, but are those the numbers of a £55,000 Peugeot?
