Modern bikes often come with sleek frames and feature internal cable routing. Along with giving a frame clean lines and an attractive appearance, internal cable routing also provides extra protection to a mountain bike's hydraulic lines and increases a frame's expandability potential.

That said, it's not always good. For novice MTB riders / amateur bicycle upgrade attempts, Internal routing can pose a challenge. Especially for upgrades like adding hydraulic brakes.
