Accounting for around 40 per cent of all Skoda’s sales, the Octavia is its best-selling model by far and to make it just that bit more competitive, Skoda has now fitted it with a new 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine.

Weighing in at a mere 78kg, it’s small and lightweight but still produces a meaty 113bhp, while Skoda claims that it’s six per cent more fuel efficient than the outgoing 1.2-litre engine it replaces.
