Weather forecasts are improving all the time but, despite huge progress in science and technology, there remains a limit on how far ahead the future can be predicted.

This limit is due to chaos theory, the idea that the flap of a butterfly's wings in Brazil could lead to a tornado in Texas.

Whilst this may be a slight exaggeration, chaos theory can have a powerful impact on weather forecasts but there are ways that meteorologists can lessen its impacts and improve predictions...
