The Opel Mokka is a subcompact crossover SUV that began its second generation in 2021. For the 2023 model year, it undergoes minor updates and remains aligned with the Stellantis platform, sharing powertrains with vehicles such as the Peugeot 2008. This SUV is designed to cater to the European market, emphasizing a blend of sportiness, modern aesthetics, and technological enhancements.

The Mokka boasts an athletic and robust design characterized by short overhangs and intricately carved body lines. Dominating the front is Opel's signature Vizor grille that extends across the car's width, complemented by sleek LED headlights. Various trim levels introduce sporty nuances, including distinct roof hues and decorative accents. Its compact dimensions make it particularly suited for navigating dense urban environments.

Powering the 2023 Mokka is a choice between a 1.2-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine producing either 100 or 130 horsepower, contingent on the trim, and a 1.5-liter diesel variant delivering 115 horsepower. Gear shifts are managed through 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmissions. Although the standard drivetrain is front-wheel drive, an all-wheel-drive option is available. While its performance is satisfactory for daily commutes, it might not satiate those seeking a spirited drive.

The diesel version impresses with a combined fuel efficiency of up to 56 mpg in European conditions, while the petrol variants offer around 44 mpg combined. These figures either rival or outpace most competitors in the subcompact crossover category. Driving modes that tweak performance and fuel efficiency further bolster these numbers.

The starting price for the 2023 Mokka hovers around £20,500 in the UK. As one ascends the trim ladder and opts for additional packages, prices can exceed £30,000. Even the base model is generously equipped with LED lighting, a digital cockpit, smartphone integration, and an array of driver assistance systems. Premium trims introduce luxuries such as a panoramic sunroof, leather seating, advanced cruise control, and heightened safety features.

On asphalt, the Mokka epitomizes Opel's hallmark nimble and well-regulated drive. Its chassis and suspension effectively mitigate road imperfections and body sway, ensuring commendable handling. Precise steering coupled with active safety tech and inherent traction control endows the driver with confidence, irrespective of the driving scenario. The car also impresses with its quiet interiors, elevating cabin comfort.

For the interior, the Mokka mirrors its exterior's chic design. The dashboard exhibits elongated lines stretching seamlessly from one door to another. Premium materials and contrasting stitchwork embellish the higher trims, emphasizing luxury. Technological features, including digital gauge clusters and expansive touchscreens, stand out, though rear-seat space may be limited for taller adults. Cargo space lags behind some of its competitors.
