We made our first camping trip to that state up north (Michigan) and stayed at the Sterling Hills State Park in Monroe Michigan. Sterling is Michigan’s only state park on Lake Erie and was worth the trip. This campground has plenty of sites with great views of the lake and most of them are easy to back into.

Our first night there we left the outside lights on the it turned out to be a bad idea. Our entire camper ended up covered in mayflies.

We took our kayaks with us and it was worth the effort, not only do you have Lake Erie, but there are several inland marsh areas that were perfect for the kayaks. If you’re interested check out this playlist about the kayaks and how we carry them.
