With a new Halloween movie on the horizon, Jamie Lee Curtis and John Carpenter have returned to the original incarnation of Michael Myers, where Laurie Strode is not his sister and the Celtic curse is nowhere to be found. But throughout the Halloween horror movie series, this scary slasher has been given an origin or two that explained why Michael Meyers is a killer.

There’s the curse of thorn established in Halloween 4, Halloween 5, and Halloween 6, the family ties established in Halloween 2, Michael’s troubled youth and obsession with Halloween mask in the Halloween 2007 Rob Zombie Halloween remake, and now, with the Halloween 2018 Halloween reboot, we’re going back to Halloween 1978 with a stripped down, scarier take on the man behind the mask. For Michael Myers, Halloween is simply a night where HE comes home and wreaks havoc on the unsuspected residents of Haddonfield, Illinois, but if every trailer, clip and scene we’ve seen of the new 2018 Halloween movie, we’re going to witness a new vision of the killer that will terrify us the same way he did 40 years ago.
