Patty was hit by a drunk driver when she was a teenager. They told her she would never recover. Her brain was severely damaged. She fought a heroic battle and I got the chance to film her as part of a television documentary that I made on coma, severe head injury and teenage drunk drivers.

It was a very hard film for me to shoot as I saw many victims who it seemed had no way to return to any kind of normal life – young people had been in a coma for a long time.

Patty’s heroism and the committed help of her family and community has given her the chance to experience a life she very much appreciated.

This is not an easy clip to watch but I hope that it will help others, whatever their struggles, to fight for their lives. My work with medical professionals including Dr. Bernie Siegel (author of Fight For Your Life) have convinced me that attitude and positive energy make more likely the kind of success Patty demonstrates.
