OVERVIEW
The modern space industry is based on four large pillars: hardware manufacturing, launch services, ground segment, and regulatory framework. The margins are going down for the first three niches. Because already today there is a tendency for mass manufacturing of satellites, payloads, and antennas if we are talking about hardware and ground services. And we have SpaceX that has been revolutionizing the launch. But in the case of the regulatory pillar, the space industry is still in the Stone Age. On average, a space company would spend around $150,000-250,000 on legal fees alone, basically, just obtaining the advice on how to fill in the application forms for NOAA or FAA or FCC or how to negotiate a launch contract. See, that’s why I really see a niche for Clerkie or Stripe Atlas-like services and platforms for negotiating the standard procurement agreements including launch as well as obtaining regulatory licenses for certain jurisdictions.
