It was November and the rut was kicking in in the north woods of Wisconsin. We had multiple pictures of shooter bucks on our trail cameras over the past week and I was up in my bow stand waiting to let an arrow fly. We had trail camera pictures of bucks fighting, chasing does, and ripping up trees! The first morning started off with a bang when a young buck made his way from one food plot to the other that was right in front of my stand. The food plot was planted with turnips in the spring and brought in deer throughout the summer. It was great to see a 1.5 year old buck that showed more signs of antler growth than a spike. He didn't want anything to do with the corn and kept his head down looking for does. That evening consisted of 30 mile per hour winds and I thought my hunt would be spoiled, but some deer eventually came in. The first was a doe that I had seen while bow hunting back in October. Close to nightfall, I saw another doe come in, but this one was being followed by a buck! To my surprise it was being followed by a buck! To my surprise it was the same buck as the in morning! The next morning I pulled out my flextone buck collector grunt call to try and put out golden estrus scent in attempt to bring in a white tail buck, but my efforts were not rewarded. I didn't see anything that morning, but with gun season right around the corner, I was far from giving up on my goal to harvest a big buck this season!
