Two more American companies are about to feel the financial pain of China taking another step toward self-reliance with microprocessors.

The Financial Times reported that China has introduced guidelines to phase out U-S chips from Intel and Advanced Micro Devices, in favor of using local chips.

Beijing has been trying to boost its local semiconductor industry and reduce its reliance on foreign firms.

Especially with the U-S curbing exports of cutting-edge chips.

One analyst estimates this could be a $1.5 billion dollar hit for Intel.

Last year, China accounted for more than a quarter of its revenue.

Sales in China totalled about 15% of A-M-D’s sales.

The new guidelines also seek to sideline Microsoft’s Windows operating system and foreign-made databases in favor of domestic options.
