A front-wheel drive BMW may be seen as sacrilege but the 128ti is a hot hatch that'll giver the Mk8 Golf GTI and Hyundai i30 N something to worry about.

Let's cover the numbers: 261bhp from the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the M135i. Power is sent to the front wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox (no manual here sadly) and it'll crack 0-62mph in 6.1 seconds. You also get bigger brakes, stiffer suspension and optional red highlights around the bumpers and skirts. The best part of all: the price. The 128ti comes in at just under £34,000, making it slightly cheaper than the equivalent DCT-equipped Golf GTI...
