Key to understand a business's present and future objectives to identify skill gaps and facilitate learning and development. Self-awareness, assessed by tools like Insights Discovery, is crucial for effective leadership. Intrinsic motivation and psychological needs are covered like autonomy, relatedness, and competence, citing Microsoft's learning culture as an example.

✅ Communication for managers - What advice would you give to managers on communicating to their team?
Managers can enhance team motivation by addressing three key psychological needs: autonomy, relatedness, and competence. Autonomy fosters ownership and empowerment, while relatedness builds connections within the team and aligns with organisational values. Competence involves providing growth opportunities for continuous skill development. By addressing these intrinsic motivators, managers can inspire their team members to thrive and achieve optimal performance.

George's motivation stems from witnessing personal and professional growth in individuals and ultimately success. He gets a great deal of satisfaction when people not only enjoy his training but also effectively utilise the new skills in their daily work. Seeing this application of learning is what truly inspires him.

To promote confidence in getting things wrong, George emphasises the importance of psychological safety. The ability to try / fail without retribution. Suggests shifting away from systems that focus solely on outcomes - passing or failing. Instead, advocates recognising / rewarding the effort and growth process involved in learning (self improvement). By measuring / valuing individuals' efforts / engagement in the learning process, rather than just results, they are encouraged to take risks, learn from mistakes and persist in learning.
