Beautiful spring hike with wildflowers to a fun little waterfall. Dutch Creek and Johntown Falls trail in the Sierra Nevada foothills are covered with poppies and lupine. This trail is located in Northern California in Marshall Gold Discovery Historic State Park off of Mt. Murphy Rd in Coloma.

I would consider this an easy hike with the option to make it harder by going straight up the side of the hill to have an awesome view of the river and town below. Do be prepared to have to sit on your bum on the way back down the hill. You can choose to go only halfway up and stroll around in the wildflowers.

If you choose to take the trail to the right and follow along the river you will come to the waterfall about 1.4 miles down the trail. This is the part of the trail they rate as moderate but only at the very end where you have to go down a steep embankment.

I can't wait to go back before the flowers are gone. Nothing better than wildflowers in the Sierra Nevada's!

Directions: From Placerville: Take Hwy 49 into the town of Coloma. Take a right on Mt. Murphy road across the one-lane bridge. Walk down Bayne road till you come to the trailhead.
