Baylan was the standout of the series for me, brilliantly played by late Ray Stevenson. While I haven't finished the show, his performance and presence was palpable and immediately captivating. His theme has become the most iconic new theme from the show, a tritone so effortlessly simple and memorable yet so effective in evoking Baylan's character. Another key component to his musical identity outside of large brass bursts and churning strings is the piano, which gives Baylan an elegance and grace unique amongst the other villain themes. His theme has become a staple of the series' score, and is one of my favorite modern villain themes in Star Wars. It perfectly represents the complexity and coldness of Baylan, his might and raw strength, and the grand, unknown plans he has for the future. Rest in piece Ray Stevenson, your impact will not be unfelt.
