Tesla Update:
Tesla shared a ton of great information in the 2019 Q4 Shareholders Letter and the Tesla 2019 Q4 earning call. Lets look at the Highlights that Tesla released in the shareholders letter:
According to Tesla, they saw New Organic Demand for the Model 3. They also returned to profitability generating over 1 billion in free cash flow.Tesla also highlighted the unbelievable accomplishment Building Gigafactory 3 (Shanghai) and having Model 3’s rolling off the production line in less than 10 months as well as the Production Ramp of the Model Y in Fremont. They went on to say that None of these significant accomplishments would be possible without strong demand for Tesla products. For most of 2019, nearly all orders came from new buyers that did not hold a prior reservation, demonstrating significant reach beyond those who showed early interest. Amazingly, this was accomplished without any spend on advertising. Yep you heard me correctly and those that know Tesla that dont advertise on any level. They went on to say, As more people drive Tesla cars and as the industry rapidly validates electrification, interest in Tesla products will continue to grow. Higher volumes driven by Model Y and Gigafactory Shanghai, continued improvements in operating leverage, and further cost efficiencies should allow Tesla to ultimately reach an industry-leading operating margin. The continued demand for Tesla vehicles is amazingly strong specifically the Model 3 and the new exciting model Y crossover. The one thing I think is really important here is the fact that demand is coming from new buyers, which means that electrification is being accepted by the general population, which bodes well for Tesla's future growth. The production ramp of Model Y in Fremont started in January 2020. Together with Model 3, the combined installed production capacity for these vehicles is now 400,000 units per year. The ramp of Model Y will be gradual as Tesla will be adding additional machinery in various production shops. After these expansions are completed by mid-2020, the installed combined Model 3 and Model Y capacity should reach 500,000 units per year. Of course we all know that Tesla will start delivering the Model Y by the end of Q1 2020 (Feb/March). I also wanted to note and remind everyone that Tesla was able to create Model Y prototype and bring it to production in 10 months... which is a pretty amazing accomplishment in its self. Now granted 75% of the Model Y is derived from the Model 3 but it's still amazing to see how quickly they were able to bring the Model Y to production.. Also to note that Tesla has already broken ground on the next phase of Gigafactory Shanghai. Given the popularity of the SUV vehicle segment, Tesla is also planning for Model Y capacity to be at least equivalent to Model 3 capacity.
Tesla is moving forward with preparations to build another factory near Berlin which has been selected as the right place to build vehicles for the European market due to a strong manufacturing and engineering presence in Germany. The first deliveries from this factory are expected in 2021. So here again Tesla is seeking to pull off another Shanghai gigafactory build, where they expect to have the Tesla Model 3 and the Tesla Model Y rolling off the production line in less than a year. Autopilot & Full Self Driving (FSD) According to Tesla, Tesla vehicles have driven over 3 billion miles using Autopilot. And As the Tesla fleet continues to grow, Autopilot miles increase exponentially, which adds significant data to the Tesla neural network. All Tesla vehicles with the FSD computer have been updated with new software that can better detect new details in their environments, allowing Tesla vehicles to show various lane markings, traffic lights, stop signs, traffic cones.
