Mitsubishi has officially launched the sixth-generation Triton pickup truck that comes with new design language, larger dimensions as well as increased safety and comfort features.
The Triton is assembled at Mitsubishi’s Laem Chabang plant and will be exported to over 100 countries around the world. It is already on sale in Thailand as of July 26, and will next be launched in Asean and Oceania markets.
According to Mitsubishi, the new model comes with a newly-developed ladder frame that’s more durable as well as a new suspension, upgraded 4×4 system drive modes as well as improved safety.
Mitsubishi says that the ladder frame in the new Triton has a 65-per cent greater cross-sectional area than in the previous model, offering better bending rigidity and torsional rigidity. By increasing the ratio of high-tensile steel used, weight increase has been minimized.
Power comes from a newly-developed 4N16 Hyper Power 2.4-liter diesel engine with variable geometry turbocharger capable of producing 181 horsepower at 3,500rpm and 430Nm of torque from 2,250-2,500rpm. The 204-horsepower engine with 470Nm of torque, and the 150-horsepower engine for the commercial variant, are expected to be offered towards the end of the year.
Active Stability Control (ASC) & Traction Control (TCL) is standard on all models as well as Hill Start Assist (HSA).
The suspension comprises of double wishbones up front and leaf springs at the rear. According to Mitsubishi, the mounting for the upper arm of the 4WD model and 2WD High Rider we drove has been moved upward to increase the stroke by 20 mm to improve roadholding and ride comfort. Meanwhile, the rear suspension uses lighter leaf springs and large-diameter dampers to improve ride comfort and durability.
