Join me, and 4 species of stingless jellyfish.

Kakaban Island is part of the Derawan Islands in East Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Home to 4 types of jellyfish which have all evolved to have be stingless ( harmless to humans )

I was lucky enough to see 3 species.

Moon Jelly (aurelia aurita)
Upside Down Jellyfish (cassiopea ornata)
Spotted Jellyfish (mastigias papua )

This lake was once a part of the ocean but was separated a very long time ago. It is now surrounded by a wall of mangroves.

Some scientists say that the jellyfish have evolved without predators, losing their stingers over time.
Other sources say that they do still have stinging cells but they have evolved to no longer be harmful to humans.

Either way, it is a natural miracle, and world wonder, a rare experience which I will ever forget.

If you visit this area, please remember to be spatially aware in the water, don't wear fins to avoid kicking the jellyfish and most of all, dont leave any rubbish behind!

Hope you enjoy the vid.

Much love.
