Snorkeling in Costa Maya - Royal Caribbean

When it comes to Mexico's stunning Caribbean coastline, destinations like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum often steal the spotlight. However, there's a hidden gem waiting to be discovered just south of these bustling tourist hubs – Costa Maya.

Nestled on the Yucatan Peninsula, Costa Maya offers a unique blend of natural beauty, rich history, and modern amenities that make it an ideal destination for travelers seeking a more relaxed and authentic Mexican experience.

Royal Caribbean had paid a lot of money to make this sleepy fishing town into a new Mexican port city.

The crystal-clear waters and powdery white sands are simply mesmerizing. Visitors can enjoy sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, or simply strolling along the shore while taking in the breathtaking views.

The nearby Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a haven for eco-tourists. It features diverse ecosystems, including mangroves, wetlands, and coral reefs, where you can observe a wide array of wildlife and marine creatures.

The Costa Maya Port is a major cruise ship destination, and the adjacent village is filled with shops, restaurants, and bars. Here, you can savor delicious Mexican cuisine, shop for authentic souvenirs, or relax in the vibrant atmosphere of the lively town.

Additionally, Costa Maya's resorts and eco-lodges provide comfortable accommodations for travelers looking to experience the region at their own pace.

On our trip, the costa maya royal caribbean excursion we went on was snorkeling.

There really isn’t much to do on this port, the hope is to have more offered in the future.

One thing you will learn quickly is that the town is covered in seaweed. They will tell you that “it’s that time of year that the seaweed is bad” but realistically that is every day.

The snorkeling at Costa Maya was fun but I think in the future I will skip out on this port. There isn’t really much to do and I felt like we could have done more on the ship.

We decided to film our entire experience snorkeling in Costa Maya, so be sure to check it out.
