Starting April 2024, Kyoto, Japan, will implement restrictions preventing tourists from accessing specific backstreets in the historic Gion neighborhood, known for its geisha presence. This decision is aimed at safeguarding the traditional entertainers from harassment by unruly tourists. Local authorities have noted a significant increase in such cases, including instances of geisha being obstructed by tourists for photographs and experiencing unwanted contact.
