As far as movies making their journey to the big screen, they don't get more successful than Star Trek. A short-lived TV series that only ran three modestly viewed seasons in the sixties, the Gene Roddenberry series became a phenomenon in re-runs, and when Star Wars came out and proved people like big-screen space operas, the original crew got a series of big-budget adventures that all grossed a pretty penny at the box office. Led by William Shatner as Captain Kirk, Leonard Nimoy as Spock and DeForest Kelly as Dr. McCoy, the series had its ups and downs, with many claiming only the even-numbered films were good.
