Back in August 2020, reports began to surface of isolated fires in parked Chevy Bolt EVs. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into three incidents last month and now GM has issued a full recall for 2017, 2018, and some 2019 model year Bolts: https://chevy.com/boltevrecall. Owners can also call 1-833-EVCHEVY for more info.

This video covers the origins of the story, recall details, and what owners can do right now to mitigate the small chance of this issue affecting them. It's important to note that this announcement does not impact the 2020 Chevy Bolt, which has a different battery pack and for which there have been no reports of this issue.

Furthermore, only a handful of incidents have been reported across some 70,000 Bolts on the road, more than 50,000 of which are in the United States, so this recall is occurring out of an abundance of caution from General Motors. Check out the information, follow the steps mentioned in this video, then enter your VIN via the Chevrolet recall site to confirm if your Chevy Bolt EV has been affected.

We'll keep an eye on the recall's progress and check back with a new video when a long-term fix is announced by GM. Subscribe to the channel and click the bell icon to get a notification when that one and other Bolt-related videos go live.
