Topshe or Mango fish are a species of small delicate freshwater fish which are native to Bengal. The are silver in color, and the head and gill portion have a pale yellow color. The best way to enjoy this fish is to make a batter fry. The batter is mostly made with Besan or Chickpea flour, but all purpose flour or maida may also be used. They take very less time to cook and hence needs frying for no more than 10 minutes.
Topshe has a very distinct and awesome taste of its own. They are a favourite in most Bengali households and can be has with any Bengali thali.
The only downside is that getting your hands on this fish is not easy, you are not likely to find them outside Bengal. But if you can find them, them just go ahead and make some delicious Topshe fry! Happy cooking!
