Shark movies are a time honored tradition when it comes to horror cinema, our fear of a shark attack is embedded in our DNA. From Jaws to Shark Week, the Meg to the upcoming 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, killer sharks and their terrifying teeth are a part of our cultural consciousness. Shark videos, or a well-made shark movie, can’t quite match the terror we feel gazing into the ocean depths, but they make up for it with terrifying action, kills, and deaths galore, courtesy of the great white shark. Great white sharks only scratch the surface when it comes to scary shark movies, however, from the mako to the megalodon, sharks make for incredible horror movie villains, and while they’re not as iconic as your average slasher, they’ve racked up quite the kill count.

Every trailer, clip, and scene from a shark movie is wrought with tension, and from what we’ve seen of the 47 Meters Down: Uncaged trailer, the 47 Meters Down 2 trailer may be a worthy successor to the sharksploitation legacy. From the very first 47 Meters Down Uncaged trailer, we could tell we were in store for a worthy 47 Meters Down sequel, but Uncaged will be so much more than simply 47 Meters Down 2. Shark cinema is still going strong in 2019, and 47 Meters Down: Uncaged is keep the fear of sharks alive in our hearts. Our fascination with these freaky fish can only be explained by our fear of the unknown, of what lurks beneath the waves, and of getting torn to shreds by nature’s ultimate predator.
